Zen Garden

this is the part of Gin Kaku Ji (the silver pavilion) with a garden made of sand arranged into these shapes. you cannot tell that it is sand, because it is covered in snow, but my thought has always been the way to obtain enlightenment is to overcome your urge to stick your foot in the middle of that giant sand construct and leave your footprint there. Just a thought.

Look at all the people up near the main buliding there! See how thier umbrellas are covered in snow? it was pretty amazing to see snow like that in Kyoto where it usually doesn't stick.
